Some people found new footage with great quality of Elvis Presley performing Unchained Melody. It was taken from an Elvis concert in Rapid City in South Dakota in 1977!
Oh my God, when I listen to this I get goosebumps, he was the best, wasn’t he?
Watch the video and please SHARE with others so they can discover the genius of Elvis!

I live in Rapid City and was at this concert. It was only shown once then put away in a vault as Pricilla did not want Elvis to be remembered as heavy as he was…. Only recently are clips of this concert coming to light…

The song was written in 1955 and made a hit by the Everly Brothers in 1965. Long before the movie Ghost.

The Righteous Brothers, not the Everly Brothers.

Also later performed beautifully by Leanne Rimes. It is a beautiful & heartfelt song that I never tire of hearing.

A wonderful performance by Elvis…he is not called the “King” for nothing…just sayin’
Also want to set the record straight as there is a lot of misinformation posted here. The song was written in 1936 by a 16 year old named Hy Zarat and music written by Alex North. It was not until 1955 when AL HIBBLER made the hit (reached #3) that it was heard. It was later made by others including the Righteous Brothers (who did not write it as someone said). Al Hibbler was born blind and was a very talented musician…it is a shame his version (which is excellent) was not selected for the movie Ghost.

I completely agree. I could only listen while driving, but it’s like he had trouble singing a line–like he was a drunk singing at a karaoke bar. Very sad.

I agree, he looks totally messed up. It also looks out of sync like it was prerecorded and he is lip singing. It is not just off on the timing, but especially at he end, his lip movements do not even match the lyrics. It is so sad. What a waste of a life and phenomenal talent.

I met Elvis @ his house when I was 9. My great uncle owned a construction company and was building a house for Elvis around 1961. We drove to the street directly behind Elvis’s home and parked. Uncle got out of his pickup walked through Elvis’s neighbors back yard opened the gate on the chain-link fence and rolled out some blueprints in Elvis’s backyard. 10 minutes later we were gone. I wanted to talk to Elvis, ride one of his horses, swim in the pool, etc. My uncle was all business, retired military officer instructed me not to talk to anyone & get back in the truck

The Everly Brothers did not record this, it was the Righteous Brothers, actually Bobby Hatfield who recorded this in 1965. Song has a very interesting history that I was not aware of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unchained_Melody

No doubt, an awesome performance/cover of *Unchained Melody*! 😀 (However, this was in playback…) Considering he died shortly later, it was almost as if Elvis was giving a message, stressing on the refrain *I need your love*…a quiet, unspoken message of needing desperately love from all, from someone… (;o(* Magical that smile that he gave to the audience at 2:40 circa… 😀
I cried so much when news of Elvis’ death came out…listening to his Music for at least a week, uninterruptedly.
Hail to the King… (~_*)

Deb, my husband and I were married to the Hawaiian an wedding song. I wrote some of the lyrics into our vows..He will always be a huge part of my life. If I ever start showing signs of losing my memory, I pray someone remembers to play his voice and I should snap right back into my perfect self.. well, at least I will never be senile with his voice around me..
who cares John, who owned that song. I love the Righteous Bros also, and saw them at my Grad nite in 69 at disneyland. But Elvis could sing anyone’s song and even tho the original band sang it well, Elvis had a way to make all music sound better…

Elvis was and always will be the king of rock n roll.what ever he sang he did a great job. I loved to hear him sing Christian music.I felt he was searching to find his way back to the life his mom would of loved to see him in. It’s sad that he died the way that he did.

If you watch it closely, especially at the end, his mouth doesn’t match up. The singing was still going when he turned his head and smiled. Good song though. He sure was sweating a lot.

yeah he raised his hands while the last keys were still ringing from the piano. When he first sit down, you could hear his breathing was heavy! He kept repeating that he had just recorded the song, I suppose that is why it took so long for him to start singing. I just bet he was using that time to sit and rest his voice. His face , under his eyes were puffy. God rest his soul, he was and forever will be the KING of Rock and Roll !

Yes I saw that too, and the piano didn’t match his hands at the end also.

Great, wonderful, very heartfelt performance of a beautiful song. The King will never be replaced……NEVER !!!!

I noticed that, too. It didn’t seem like he was lip syncing, but what other explanation could there be? He was obviously majorly exerting himself with all that sweat. Drugs probably had something to do with it, and maybe his clothes were restrictive. He could have been wearing some kind of girdle. So sad to see him go downhill the way he did; he was so talented, and I heard very generous.

The last note was not sung by Elvis. You can see him talking to the guy next to him while the last note is being sung.

You are looking at a computer screen, the lips seldomly match up what one is saying. Of course he sany that song. Do you ever watch people talk & their lips move 3 seconds later? It happens allot on T.V. and even more on a computer……The entire world knows that Elvis was a drug addict and we all mourned his untimely death, but nothing will ever take away from this magical voice. Elvis is and forever will be King…….

I hope he has found happiness as he wasn’t happy here. We all participated in his death by making him feel so isolated. There will never be another one, beautiful voice. I saw him in concert 4 times and the vibes in the center was like electric. My opportunity to thank him.

All of us have sad things in our lives. Great men have great flaws. Elvis being a perfect example. There was never before nor will there EVER be a person that can even come close to the King. HOW GREAT THOU ART, ELVIS!!!

Just 2 months before he left us and while he looks worn and tired, his voice is still amazing. My favorite singer of all time!! LOVE THIS MAN!!!

This is not dubbed or synced. At about 3.18 he mumbles into the mic. I think the bad sync is probably due to the limited recording methods at the time or the fact that sound and vision may have been recorded separately and joined together later. There has never been, will never be anyone electric as Elvis, him and Judy Garland. Both dead from drug overdose.

Does anyone know where Elvis’ rendition of “Battle Hymn of the Republic” can be found on the internet? I’ve searched Spotify – nothing.

@Ann…. The song you are looking for is titled “An American Trilogy” …. which combined 3 old time songs into one …Dixie, The Battle hymn of the republic and All my trials …. give this title a try I’m sure it will pop up beings that it’s one of Elvis’ most popular songs ….best version in my opinion is on the “Aloha from Hawaii” concert album…happy searching!

He was a very PREJUDICE PRICK.Have any of you ever heard him talk, besides sing. Yes he can sing, but he was also an asshole to women and other races besides himself being white and a coward to fight for the country that made him who he is.
