Which, I guarantee you, is WHY he didn’t shoot it.
We hunters (NOT poachers…a different type of person entirely) proudly call ourselves “conservationists”, because we know we might be hunting for our pleasure, but it’s doing a service to the wild animal populations, too, replacing the function of the predators we’ve driven out, legitimately, so WE can live comfortably. If we didn’t do this, then starvation and disease would be the only natural ways to cull…
But conservationism means you DON’T shoot the young ones…they’re the next generation of healthy ones. Cull them too early, it damages the population, not helps it.
Works just like a rancher and his cattle…you kill the old cows and bulls, not the calves, if you want a healthy herd. (And yes, that means a lot of us abhor veal).

I thought the same thing. Any creature would react to a gun shot, it’s just so loud and the deer didn’t flinch at all. Still suprising he came up to humans and even let them touch him.

Hunters don’t kill young ones because it’s counter the actual purpose of hunting…it damages the population, not helps it.
Same thing that causes ranchers to kill older bulls and cows, not calves (unless they’re veal producers…and most hunters I know find veal production practices just as wrong as PETA does, even if we’re not quite as ridiculous as they are about dealing with it).

Those people are cretins! Laughing and cussing as the baby fawn licks the gun and shooting all around him. What on earth could possibly make you think they wouldn’t be out shooting again, really?? That’s what they do. They do not need to hunt for food this is sport and a game for them. They have just never seen this situation and thought they film it for posterity. Unfortunately for the deer he will probably be a sitting duck if he is ever in that situation again someone won’t be as fixated on filming him and just figure him an easy target.

Odds are extremely high the fawn was deaf. Deer have very good hearing and always react in some fashion to gunfire, even from hundreds of yards away, not to mention .308s are quite loud. As for the rest of his bizarre behavior, I’ve never seen anything like it from a wild deer, which makes me question just how wild it actually is. There are plenty of places where guides feed the deer on their property and they become fairly domesticated.
