Cooking Bacon and Eggs in a Paper Bag!

OK, I’ll admit it… I’m a city girl, so while I think this is a cool tip, I’d not use it… Not looking forward to having bacon grease in my hands… 😉

But, some times, all you have at hand are a paper bag, a stick, and a fire… and off course, bacon and eggs… Check it out!

I take an eye of the round roast, roll it in Kosher salt until it is entirely covered. Then put it on wax paper and roll it seven times to cover it completely. Place it on a bed of hot coals for 20 minutes. At the end of 20 minutes rotate the roast one third of the way for another 20 minutes. Rotate it again at the end of 20 minutes and let cook the last 20 minutes. Remove from the coals, cut thru the wax paper and you have a perfectly cooked roast.

I made an oven out of a cardboard box, cooked a turkey breast in it my scouts parents said that they told them that it was better than their Thanksgiving dinner, you take a box cut out one side, make a door out of one end, staple aluminum foil on inside all around, make a hole 2/3 from the bottom, the open end, install 2 coat hangers, put charcoal in a hole or use a aluminum pan used for baking ,let charcoal burn place meat in an aluminum pan on top of coat hangers, cook the same time as using a grill,it works for any meal, another leader used a box to bake a cake,he placed it on top of an wood stove,it turned out great, you could also do biscuits .

I’ve never even heard of such a method. Then again, I must be a clueless city boy, lol. This is fascinating.

I like this! This is such a good idea. I wonder if there is an alternative to bacon. I don’t eat meat, but I loved this.

Since bacon grease soaked bag makes a great firestarter, how does it ignite with no food in it…but not before? Fun video.

I was wondering the same thing, but I’m guessing that the coals are not hot enough to catch grease on fire, but when the cooking is done the bag is turned over and the dry paper end is put in the coals to ignite. Or he used a match to start the dry paper and that flame caught the greasy end on fire.

I take double sheet of aluminum foil ~ lay a bed of red cabbage, onions, garlic, sea salt, pepper, sliced zuchhini squash or summer squash. add a firm piece of fish (trout, salmon, tuna, halibut. swordfish) to the top and then another layer of red cabbage over the top. Wrap it up tightly and throw into the burning coals. Add any other herbs or spices you like tarragon or your own version of mrs. dash. Enjoy!
