Wow… Kelliee Jo Nelson, of Minnesota, wrote on Facebook how her 16-year-old daughter nearly died after drinking two beers and six shots… I think her post speaks for itself…

  2. No gods of any sort were involved in this child’s life being saved. Her father, paramedics, nurses, doctors, modern medicine, science can all be credited with saving her life! Hope she and her friend have learned a lesson. She could have lost her life. Her friend could have died as well. I do not think the dad did anything wrong, necessarily, nor the mom, of course. Definitely calls for a family meeting and education on the dangers of drinking alcohol. Hope this young lady learned an important lesson and makes better choices in the future.

If it weren’t for those doctors and nurses and modern medicine, she would have died. Point blank. Whether God wanted her to or not, she would have died if she had not been saved by doctors. God’s will is not the only form of miracles and giving all of the credit to God is simply ignorant. If she hadn’t been taken to the hospital I don’t think God would have stepped in and put those tubes in her body or pumped her stomach. She would have just died. I do believe in God and I understand why people need religion, but sometimes people need to realize that religion isn’t always the best answer. Sometimes “support” is all it is. It’s extremely easy to make yourself feel better by saying “God will take care of it” or “it’s all up to God”. But support is all those thoughts are. The entire reason why religion was invented was so that human beings could believe in a higher purpose which gives them hope of a being beyond our tangible world. Yes religion is important but you cannot say that these doctors were not responsible for saving this child’s life. And to just tell someone to take their atheist crap elsewhere is ignorance because you can believe in God and all his beauty and still be able to see right through Christian bullshit. A true believer in God, one who understands his teachings and desires for mankind, does not tear down others for seeing things from a different perspective or understanding other aspects of situations in a way that they themselves may not be able to see at first. A true believer would try to see from that other person’s perspective and to understand WHY they think differently instead of simply shutting them out. And even when you’ve done all you feel you can do and you still disagree, LOVE that person because of their differences and their points of view, because isn’t that really what God wants? No one is perfect nor will they ever be, but the best way to live a full well-rounded life is to explore different perspectives, to learn as much as possible and to know the true truth and THEN only then should your judgements be made. You can will something to be true as much as you want, but no matter how much you believe in it, it won’t make it true or right. So isn’t it better to know what’s really going on than to swear by something that is only covering up the truth or to swear by something that you only tell yourself for “support” and “hope”? Blind ignorance is never an honorable or attractive feature and neither are intolerance and bigotry.

Ha, good one. The apple(the fruit of knowledge) was the forbidden in the Garden Of Eden. According to the bible we as humans were never supposed to be self aware nor have any sort of knowledge. After Eve was tempted by the snake and Adam followed suit, they realized that they were naked and fashioned makeshift clothing. When god seen this he questioned them, kicked them out of the garden of eden. That is why child birth is supposed to hurt and men have to work as well as some other things that i don’t really believe. If you’re going to try and say “god” did this, do it in a way where you’re not wrong

The mother of the post wrote “we, by the Grace of God alone, will not be burying our child this week. ” If she wants to believe in God and give Him credit for her daughter being saved from death, let her do so without criticism. For those who don’t believe in God, why does it bother you so much when others do?
For those who do believe in God, why not give God the glory?? Yes, the medical professionals saved her life, but so many things could have went wrong. Maybe it was God who made everything go smoothly. The post stated that it was enough alcohol to kill a grown man. This was a teenage girl. Why can’t the fact that she lived be a miracle to those who believe in god? Why does that offend anyone? Maybe if it wasn’t for God, the step father who found the girls would have been in am accident and he wouldn’t have found them. Maybe if it wasn’t for God, then the ambulance could have had something happen to it. God (for those who belive) know that God is always with us and protecting us and that we have guardian angels who fight for us. If you don’t believe in God, that’s your decision. But for those that do, I also for the same respect. Each to his own. Obviously, the mother of the child believes in God and wants to give him credit and thank him for the life of her daughter, so let her! Respect her statements and carry on with you life. I will never understand why people who believe in nothing want so badly to put down those who believe in something.

Clearly, the girls stole the liquor from the father’s liquor cabinet. Nobody ‘let’ them drink, they chose to drink on their own. I’m sure the father learned his lesson, though. And that his cabinet, if he chooses to have one at all, will be locked going forward.

Why did this turn into a heated debate about religion?? Whether you believe in God, Buddha, Reincarnation, Or nothing at all, the article was one to inform teenagers about the dangers of binge drinking. Most of us can admit (no matter if we are God fearing or atheists) that at one point in our teenage years we experimented with things we shouldn’t have…..this child got lucky…..whether God intervened or not isn’t the issue here….it’s that by some miracle she did survive, as an ER nurse I have seen one too many cases where teens don’t survive alcohol poisoning. Yes I may have been the one that gave her the IV fluids or put in the NG tube, but sometimes all the medical interventions in the world cannot help……some may say God chooses who to take with Him to heaven, others say it was just meant to be…..whatever your view is how about show a little HUMANITY, these parents have just went through hell and back and now there’s a religious debate going on??!!! This article is meant to educate us, so we can educate our children, and even if they don’t listen all we can do is try, and hope they hear us. My thoughts are with this child and her family.

As parents and grandparents, we sat down and talked to our child and grandchildren. We had them sign a contract stating “If they were driving or out with friends and intoxicated to call home and we would pick them up. No question asked.” They still tried, drinking, smoking, drugs and sex. All teenagers are going to try. But if they are educated at a young age, they do think twice. Unfortunately alcohol, cigarettes, drugs are very easy to obtain at any age beginning as young as 10. So parents ask your kids, How easy is it to get alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs . You will be suprised at the answer.

Drugs and alcohol are always going to be there to tempt people, especially those easily persuaded such as teens, so all we can hope for is that while they were young and impressionable, we, being parents, instilled some type of sense into their brains and that we also created a relationship that is open so our kids feel comfortable talking to us about most things and know there isn’t going to be retaliation of any sort. I really dislike how fast the comments degraded into religious and anti religious slander and faith-pushing. Is that really what’s important here? A sixteen year old girl almost died. That’s what is important. Not who or what saved her or whether or not god exists or whether or not atheists are going to hell. I doesn’t matter. This girl ALMOST DIED. Dead is forever. Two parents would have lost their baby girl, a teenager would have lost her cousin. Bugger off with who’s right or wrong about religion and keep the comments on topic with the article.

  46. Pffff stop with the anti-alcohol propaganda please. Drinking is great and heavy drinkers usually outlive teetotalers anyway. Check the scientific research: http://lordsofthedrinks.com/2013/12/11/abstinent-people-more-likely-to-die-young-than-heavy-drinkers/

  47. So glad she survived. God bless.

Btw, you have a typo. Hypothermia is what she had at 95 degrees. Hyperthermia is a fever.

I don’t believe Kelliee Jo Nelson posted this blog as a forum for an argument over whether there is a God or not. I think her intent is to educate other parents on the dangers of alcohol poisoning in teenagers and how quickly it can happen. She and her Taylor’s father were unsuspecting. I imagine that they never had any substance abuse problems with their daughter before, but it only takes one time.
The idea that people would take this horrific event in these people’s lives and turn it into a self- serving religious battle of beliefs does not serve anyone. I do believe in God, and I am a Christian, but I don’t believe in beating people over the head with my beliefs. One thing I never heard from any of the so-called die hard Christians is that God gives everyone talents, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics and He guides them as much as they allow Him to to do their jobs, as He does the rest of us. We have free will to believe or not, to follow or not. Just like the young lady that made a decision to drink on that terrible night. Some of us just hope, some us pray that we make it to the next day. Then if we do we are thankful and feel blessed or lucky.
I am happy that this family has another chance at life. Taylor will graduate from high school and maybe continue on to college and someday have a family of her own and share her life lesson so that it doesn’t happen to anyone else’s child. If this blog saves just one person’s child then this mother is a “SHERO”! Kelliee, Thank you for sharing, what I can only imagine, as a mother, was one of the most painful times in your life.
