Panic! At The Disco Does the Best Rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody EVER!

Panic! At The Disco has been playing Bohemian Rhapsody on their The Gospel Tour, and I gotta say, this is hands down the best version ever of this song (apart from the original, of course…). Check them out and tell me if you’ve ever heard a better one… Good job you guys!

A minus on the smoke and lights – the tech toys package & production. C+ on the vocal talent and D minus on their musicianship.

I heard this done by another band some years ago. They did it far better. I think they were called Queen ?

Why do people rave about a band that does a cover song ? This vid shows a band doing a Queen song quite well, but, do you know what, they don’t do it as well as Queen did it, they didn’t write it, and most of the good feelings people get listening to the song are there because people know the song … because they heard Queen do it.
Praising a band for doing a cover, no matter how well, is akin to praising the bloke that carries away the paperwork of the bestest ever peace deal.
Praise the people that made it all happen, not the copycats.
    Sheesh.

So then do you say that an instrumentalist doesn’t deserve praise when they play a piece of music well that they did not write? Obviously they are not the composer, they most likely weren’t who the composer wrote the piece for. But they learned it and mastered it. Do you tell them “the original was better.” No, you congratulate them on a job well done. How then is this group of musicians any different? They performed a well known piece by a well known group and they performed well. They brought back to life a song that can no longer be performed by its creators. In fact, by your logic every musician could be considered a copycat. The majority of musicians play music written by someone else. Berating a performance because they aren’t the “original” is idiotic. Judge a performance by the quality. Panic! At the Disco moved that audience by more than just a cover song, they moved them with their performance. That’s all a musician can ask for.

Every classical pianist or high school choir are performing a “cover” of and original piece written up to centuries ago.. They key here is this is a complicated musical number and they did it well and without tainting the mastery of Queen and their original music. I first saw this performed by Queen on a late-night TV show around 1975, I loved it then and love it now. this young group has done justice to the music. I wish them well in future performances and hope they do bring life to the old such as Zeppelin, Heart, Styx and Pink Floyd would be Great!

I love the original and I love this. Having performed this number myself I know just how hard it is to pull off, great modern interpretation of a classic. Enjoy!

Yeah, for me, Panic’s singer does not nail the falsetto parts, and there is something wierd going on with the background vocals (parts definitely sound like they are going through harmonizers to add more voices, and look at the last few bars of the middle section where no one is singing into a mic but there is a huge background chorus). Also, guitar player isn’t really up to the task of doing Brian May, BUT, they do a pretty good job for a young band covering a very difficult piece of music on stage.
