Guys you are going to love this tip. How to cut an onion without crying. I heard so many theories, that you have to chew something while you’re cutting it, that you have to look somewhere else. Well this tip will show you how to do it, and the best part is that it works! 🙂
Do you have your own technique to cut the onion?
But Indians use to cut the onions with a lightened candle.Lightened candle reduces the cry 🙂

This would not work if you work in a kitchen. To much waste. Put your onions in the fridge. Cold onions don’t make you cry.

Or, I found that if u cut them in a walk in cooler you don’t cry either. But you’re right, not that much waste in my kitchen. Maybe at home.

Why is this guy trying to look like Ali G?! And secondly, what an absolute waste of one third of an onion. Maybe in the west, people can afford to be so wasteful, but for many, the idea of throwing away a third of the onion to prevent a little crying is absurd!

Throwing away 1/3 of food is very wasteful. Try running a resturant this way and see what happens to your profit. Instead of tossing the gas cone in the trash, why not trim it and boil it for stock or process/blend it.
Cutting onions under or near an exhaust fan works really well.
thanks for the video but it looks like you missed proper knife handling techniques in school and that knife cut like it was dull. Dull knifes have a mind of their own and are more dangerous than sharp ones. I was expecting an accident.

One more effective technique is just keep your mouth open to take breath in. This absorbs the gas inside mouth without affecting eyes to cry…

Using a very sharp knife works just as well, using a serated knife will cause the vapors and juices from the onion to explode therefore causing tears.

I have found that if you wear a diving mask with a snorkel attached whilst cutting onions it greatly reduces tears. An added bonus is that it also saves time if you want go for a quick dive whilst the food is cooking….
