Tui, the African Grey Parrot started arguing with her owner. And what a tantrum and verbal lashing she threw. There was no way her owner was going to win this verbal battle. At least we all won something, the fact that this video is hysterical, don’t you think?

The human doesn’t understand the responsibility of owning such a fine bird. He is controlling and negative. The bird only mimics. It’s natural for a parrot to squeal. chirp, sqwauk and make noises. He is a creature made to live outdoors in the trees and hills in a community of other birds. The human expects an animal to conform to his dwelling and level of quietness. BIRD WINNER-HUMAN LOSER! This birdy needs to be rescued!

Rescued???!? Oh please that is ridiculous, they obviously have a comedy of word going both human and parrot enjoy. Can you not just see into the joy of it instead of microscopically investigating the clip and bird owners intentions?? We had a budgie bird that would cuss…exactly like my parents!!!! Get over it…live and let live…rescuers would laugh in your face and disagree vehemently!

this is hilarious! I also am owned by an african grey parrot. She is a complex animal, smart, funny, bossy, clever. I laughed so hard, because I truly believe that when a bird learns to talk, it’s so he/she can give humans orders…… Thanks, it was funny.

Why are you yelling in upper case caps speaking of abuse

this bird is not having a conversation, he is simply mimicking what he has heard. The person who said the bird needs rescued needs to keep in mind that the bird seems happy and healthy. You hear the words, the bird has no concept of what the words even mean.

I disagree with you on the fact that he doesn’t know what he’s saying, I’ve had parrots in my house for 18 years, 17 of those year have been with an african grey just like Tui and they infact do completely understand what they are saying. When other birds in my house are being noisy, or the dog is barking, he tells them to shut up…when my son walks out of the room he yells his name and goes looking for him. When the bus comes with both of our boys, he yells a jumbled mixup of both of their names. While trying to train him to go to the bathroom years ago before letting him out of his cage, we used the phase, Charlie go poop and I’ll let you out..and he would go. Several months later my son who was 2-3ish at the time sat on the toilet to use the restroom and Charlie said to him, Jeremiah, go poop. They know what they are saying…is some of what they say mimic, absolutely but much of the time, they know exactly what they say and mean it. I do however agree with you that the person that says the bird needs rehomed is wrong. That person clearly has no concept of what a healthy bird is and just because it swears and yells, doesn’t mean it’s been mistreated. People swear and yell in life and greys are notorious for picking up words and phrases after just hearing them once….mine tells everyone to shut up, even himself. That owner is doing nothing wrong with his bird….I tell mine to shut up constantly. LOL They are noisy buggers.

Like one day I was putting on my jacket to go to work and he said gary goodbye.no one taught him that,I was suprized to find out that a bird can think of stuff but Chico has proved it a few times.

I agree that there needs to be some more empathy for the bird’s plight. How about putting some plants around her – some natural elements so she feels less like a prisoner in a human’s home and somewhat more like in her indigenous settings?

She would have them tore up within minutes….you clearly have never had a parrot in your home. Greys shred and destroy anything that’s is able to be torn up.

Actually studies have shown that African grays and other parrots CAN understand a lot of the words they are using. Not sure if I can post a link here or not, but Google Alex, the African Gray that learned and understood over 100 words in English…

Winnie, my African Grey says “Stop that!” and “Don’t bite.” She also says, “Scratch, scratch?” If anyone goes to the back door to let the dog out, she say, “Go outside. Go potty.”
