Unfortunately you can’t cook honey. In a tablespoon of lemon is very little vitamin C

Sugar is horrible for the immune system! You would be much better off taking raw honey.

This recipe is too unhealthy due to the sugar and lemon ratio. There is way too much sugar and very little lemon. I hope nobody will rely on it as a remedy because it not.

Maybe not as a remedy to cure the cold. Doc’s really do a good job at that but it may do in a crunch if you get a sore throat on a weekend and need relief. I mean hey who doesnt eat a candy bar every now and then and it looks like the pieces are really small. If it helped my throat until i could get o my doc on a Monday I would try it till then and probably be none the worse for it. You guys cant tell me you don’t eat sugar and if you do then you may want to check all your labels on every food you by because its in almost everything unless you are absolutely careful. Don’t be so critical. a few will not kill you unless you are diabetic and if so then be smart and don’t cook it or eat it.

  17. Great old fashioned cure! I hate pills and other medications. Let’s use the tricks that our ancestors used for 100’s of years. In general they are more effective and a lot healthier too. Personally I like to mix in some liquor when I’m feeling a little sick. Most kinds of booze were actually invented as a medicine anyway: http://lordsofthedrinks.com/2014/03/18/10-alcoholic-drinks-to-replace-the-pills-in-your-medicine-cabinet/

The sugar is to make a syrupy mixture if you are going to use it to make the drops or if it is more for a cough syrup. A thick sweet syrup coats your throat & helps calm coughing. You could try using blackstrap molasses in place of it or if you don’t like that use a good non-sugar sweetener. But for general use, I would rather see orange juice or green tea in place of water & lemon juice, add the ginger, cloves & honey, a zinc tablet & just warm it to dissolve the tablet & drink or sip several times during the day. If too bitter, add more honey. Honey won’t hurt you unless you are diabetic. Yes the cayenne pepper would be good but don’t think that & cloves would taste that good. Also add to your agenda a good B vitamin complex supplement to help boost your immune system. Most importantly plenty of clear liquids to keep your body hydrated.

1 tsp. of sugar can paralyze the immune system for over 6 hours. All of the ingredients made into a liquid and stored in the fridge is much better. This way it is all raw and nourishing to the immune system.

The first time I made them I only boiled it for 15 mins, and they did not harden either but the second time I boiled it for 20 mins and it was perfect. But they all stuck to the wax paper 😦

Agave instead of sugar is even worse! It has a much higher fructose content which is more harmful to your body! Stay away from agave!

You are right. Bacteria love sugar. Also, vitamin C is not a cure or remedy, it can stimulate the immune system, but too much can harm you. I hope people don’t give unpasteurized honey to babies or immune compromised people, it has harmful bacteria in it. Otherwise it helps prevent infection, you cam use medical honey on wounds, they use it in wound care all of the time. Best way to prevent colds and flu -wash your hands and cover your cough.
