They didn’t look like l.e.d.s to me They looked like ‘filament’ type bulbs which could be a fire hazard. Great idea for l.e.d.s though.

this is easier than when I made these 30 years ago using hot glue gun and a solder gun to make the holes and keep it together they do last many years though, at least 30 some years if you take care of it!

I’ve got to make some of these SPARKLE BALLS ….for gifts!
I have a few ideas you may wish to try:
1. Select the DRILL BIT SIZE to accommodate the size of YOUR lights. You might find a HOLE SIZE that is perfect and achieves a “force fit” that holds the light uniformly in each cup. Test first before drilling all the cups. And for goodness sakes, DRILL through the entire stack of cups, not one at a time!
2. I suspect that the STAPLES may not provide sufficient strength for many seasons of use. Therefore, after stapling, I’ll try squirting some HOT GLUE where the cups touch. If the HOT GLUE bonds to the plastic, it will strengthen the ball assembly.
3. I’ll try adding some type of HANGER (Rope, Yarn, Wire) so the ball won’t be suspended from the electrical cord.
3. Instead of clear, COLORED plastic cups may be used.

I like recycling and teach my kids at school to do so. I have had them make hanging flower baskets from water and soda bottles. Love your ideas and will be trying them. The one on the roses I couldn’t tell what glue and kind glitter source was used. Thanks for sharing.

I tried twice with two different size cups…..neither worked …very disappointed 😦

This was very pretty when finished. But, my goodness they were very hard to hold together even with the clothespins. There is not one site that tells the size of the drill to use- It’s either too small, or too big. I went with the smaller size and had to cut snips in some of the holes to get the lites in .Not all the rubber around the lites was the same.
